Built at Drummond Cove, ready for what comes next
As the Wajarri Maintenance Team completes its current program at Drummond Cove Holiday Park, WEL is celebrating the cabins they have helped improve, the skills they have developed and their next opportunity with GBSC.
This week marks an important milestone for the Wajarri Maintenance Team as the crew completes its current program of work at Drummond Cove Holiday Park.
Since Wajarri Enterprises Limited acquired the holiday park in 2023, developing the property has been about more than improving a WEL-owned business. It has also created a place where Wajarri people can gain practical experience, strengthen their skills and build pathways into future employment.
The Maintenance Team has played an important role in that work.
Over the past several years, the crew has helped refurbish and improve cabins while carrying out maintenance across the wider property. Their work has supported WEL’s continued investment in the park and helped create more comfortable and welcoming cabin accommodation at Drummond Cove for visitors to the Geraldton region.
Completing this work within an operating holiday park required the team to work carefully around guests, respond to changing priorities and coordinate with park staff. Each job brought different challenges and opportunities to learn.
Along the way, team members developed practical skills across repairs, maintenance and property improvements. They also strengthened their ability to plan work, solve problems, work safely and take greater responsibility on site.
This focus on upskilling Wajarri people has always been central to the program.
For Wajarri Enterprises Limited, Drummond Cove Holiday Park demonstrates how a Wajarri-owned business can deliver commercial outcomes while creating meaningful employment and development opportunities for Wajarri Yamaji people.
The results can now be seen in both the park and the people who helped improve it.
The cabins and facilities will continue to be enjoyed by guests, while the experience gained by the team will travel with them into the next stage of their careers. That is an outcome WEL is especially proud to celebrate.
The team will now move into a new employment opportunity with Geraldton Building Services and Cabinets (GBSC), a Geraldton company working across construction, building maintenance, cabinetry and related services.
The move to GBSC will give team members the opportunity to apply what they have learned at Drummond Cove in a new working environment while continuing to broaden their skills and industry experience.
It is also a strong example of what WEL wants its employment programs to achieve: creating opportunities that build confidence, capability and genuine pathways for Wajarri people.
Drummond Cove Holiday Park provided the team with a place to learn through real work and contribute to the development of an important WEL asset. GBSC represents the next opportunity to build on that foundation.
WEL thanks every member of the Wajarri Maintenance Team for their hard work, flexibility and commitment. Their contribution will remain part of Drummond Cove Holiday Park, particularly through the cabins and spaces they helped renew.
